🌺 A Morning in the Garden
This week, I wandered through my sister's garden with my camera, captivated by the vibrant lilies blooming in the warmth of summer. Their colors were breathtaking—deep crimson, soft pink, brilliant orange, and delicate white.
As I admired them, one thought stayed with me:
Every one of these beautiful flowers spent months hidden beneath the soil.
During winter, there were no blossoms to admire. No leaves. No fragrance. No visible signs of life.
Yet beneath the frozen ground, something remarkable was happening.
The bulbs were alive.
They were storing energy, developing roots, and quietly preparing for the season in which they would bloom.
That realization made me pause because life often unfolds the same way.
🌺 The Hidden Seasons of Life
We live in a culture that celebrates visible success.
Promotions.
Awards.
Graduation ceremonies.
Business growth.
Beautiful destinations.
What we rarely celebrate are the hidden seasons that make those moments possible.
The long nights of study.
The disappointments.
The unanswered prayers.
The career transitions.
The moments of uncertainty when it feels as though nothing is happening.
Yet these are often the seasons that shape us most profoundly.
Growth is not always visible.
🌺 A Leadership Lesson
The strongest leaders are rarely formed during seasons of comfort.
Leadership develops quietly.
It is cultivated through difficult conversations, challenging assignments, unexpected setbacks, and opportunities to serve others long before recognition arrives.
Just as a flower cannot bloom without first developing a healthy root system, effective leaders need time to grow beneath the surface.
Organizations experience similar seasons.
There are times when a team appears to be making little progress. Yet behind the scenes, trust is being built, skills are developing, and a stronger culture is taking shape.
Transformation often begins long before results become visible.
🌺 A Sustainability Perspective
Nature teaches us an important lesson about sustainability.
Nothing is wasted.
Winter is not a season of failure.
It is a season of preparation.
The bulb conserves energy, protects life, and waits patiently for the right conditions.
How often do we wish away our own winters?
Perhaps instead of asking, "Why is nothing happening?"Â we should ask,
"What is this season preparing me for?"
🌺 Reflection Questions
Take a moment to ask yourself:
What "winter season" am I experiencing today?
What strengths might be developing beneath the surface?
What opportunities could this season be preparing me for?
How can I embrace this period rather than resist it?
🌺 Scripture for Reflection
"See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come."
Song of Solomon 2:11–12
🌺 Final Thought
The world celebrates the flower.
Nature celebrates the bulb.
Perhaps we should learn to celebrate our hidden seasons as well.
Because every beautiful bloom begins where no one is looking.
