Still Unfolding, Still Becoming

Today, I stopped to photograph this sunflower.

What caught my attention wasn't a perfectly opened flower. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

Some of its petals had opened beautifully toward the sunlight, while others remained folded beneath the green bracts surrounding the flower.

And I thought: how much like life this is.

We often expect growth to look complete, the finished result, the achievement, the answer, the breakthrough. So we grow impatient when parts of our lives seem to be taking longer to unfold. But nature doesn't seem to be in such a hurry.

This sunflower isn't waiting until every petal has opened before being what it was created to be. It is already a sunflower. Already growing. It's already beautiful.

Perhaps we should extend the same grace to ourselves.

There may be areas of our lives that have blossomed, and others that remain tightly folded. There may be plans that haven't come together yet, answers we're still waiting for, or paths whose destination we cannot yet see.

This doesn't mean nothing is happening.

Becoming is happening even before the bloom is complete.

So today, this little sunflower offered a simple reminder:

You don't have to be fully open to be in bloom.

• Keep growing.

• Keep unfolding.

• Keep becoming.
